Maryland NEW VENTURE Pitch Night!

Description: On Monday, May 12, 2024, bwtech@UMBC will host a Pitch Night to commemorate the end of the 2025 Maryland NEW VENTURE Program. Eight teams, each including one entrepreneur, one mentor, and three-five graduate student fellows, will participate in “Shark Tank” style presentations to share their ideas for commercially viable, technology solutions to some of the nation’s problems to secure information systems, utilities, infrastructure, and supply chains. An entrepreneur from each team will present their ideas to a panel of judges, who will evaluate each presentation for quality of the pitch, commercial viability of the proposed product/technology solution, and potential impact of the proposed product/technology solution.

Now in its fifth year, Maryland NEW VENTURE is a program created by bwtech in partnership with UMBC to accelerate the launch of technology businesses.

Applicants were selected and matched into teams in January 2025. Over the last four months, teams have collaborated to develop new technology solutions and design a business launch plan to bring it to market. Teams met weekly and were guided through a curriculum facilitated by bwtech that included weekly agendas, assignments, milestones, and deadlines. They also participated in educational presentations from local business and technology experts to gain insight into market research, financing, sales, marketing, and more to launch a successful startup.
